Shinhan Financial Group Appoints Vice President Kim Myung-hee as Head of Digital Division
Leading Female DT Expert in Korea... Overseeing Digital and ICT Strategy for the Entire Group
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Shinhan Financial Group announced on the 24th that it has newly appointed Vice President Kim Myung-hee as the group's Chief Digital Officer (CDO).
Shinhan Financial Group has been seeking digital talent with expertise in digital and ICT, experience in driving digital transformation (DT), and management capabilities to stay ahead in digital competition against rival financial groups as well as big tech and fintech companies.
Vice President Kim, newly recruited this time, is a leading female DT expert in Korea. After graduating from the Department of Computer Science at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), she started her career at IBM Korea, where she worked for about 23 years.
In 2013, she moved to SK Telecom to take on new challenges. As head of the Solution Consulting Division, she was recognized for her capabilities by leading numerous DT consulting projects that proposed business models and products tailored to customers and industries using new digital technologies.
In addition, in 2017, she was appointed as the Director of the National Information Resources Service under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, becoming the first female senior government official selected after the government's introduction of the 'Private Sector Outstanding Talent Headhunting' system.
Vice President Kim is credited with driving digital innovation at the National Information Resources Service, which had been a simple operational agency managing information systems of central government ministries. During her term, she led the introduction of new technologies such as AI, big data, and cloud computing, enhancing operational efficiency and service innovation. She achieved results including the spread of scientific administration using big data, process innovation, budget savings, and improved customer satisfaction.
Based on these achievements, she was externally recognized by receiving the 'Digital Transformation Leader in the Asia-Pacific Region' award in 2018 and the 'Korea CIO of the Year Award' in 2019.
Shinhan Financial Group plans to accelerate DT further with the recruitment of Vice President Kim. The group will also reorganize the overall 'digital governance' within the group to expand DT promotion areas and actively strengthen both financial and non-financial platforms.
