Three First 'Omicron' Cases Confirmed in Gangwon... Epidemiological Investigation Underway
Testing Procedures Underway for Close Contacts Including New Confirmed Cases
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Three new confirmed cases of the COVID-19 Omicron variant have been reported in the Gangwon region.
According to the provincial quarantine authorities on the 23rd, two of the cases are family members and acquaintances of confirmed patients, and the other is a family member of a confirmed patient who visited a restaurant at the same time as a confirmed patient.
These are the first patients within Gangwon Province, and epidemiological investigations confirmed that they were infected after meeting a confirmed patient in their 20s from the Gwangju area on the 14th at two restaurants in Wonju city.
The quarantine authorities believe that the confirmed patient from Gwangju transmitted the virus at the Wonju restaurants, and that the restaurant-related confirmed patients further spread the virus to eight family members during a family gathering.
In addition, while conducting testing procedures for the new confirmed cases and their contacts, the authorities have requested the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency to test 10 suspected Omicron cases within the province.
