CJ Logistics Union to Launch General Strike from 28th... Concerns Over 'Delivery Crisis'
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] The CJ Logistics labor union announced on the 23rd that, following a strike vote with a 93.6% approval rate, it will launch an indefinite full-scale strike starting on the 28th.
The CJ Logistics union conducted the strike vote on the morning of the same day, with 2,290 out of 2,500 registered union members participating. The approval rate was 93.58%. The union stated that 1,700 members with the right to strike will participate in this strike.
The union claimed that "CJ Logistics is generating an additional annual profit of 350 billion KRW from the increased parcel delivery fees, which should have been used to improve the working conditions of delivery workers, while ignoring the social agreement made to prevent overwork-related deaths among delivery workers."
They further criticized, "After CEO Kang Shin-ho took office, CJ Logistics raised parcel delivery fees by 170 KRW in April, but only 51.6 KRW of that was used to fulfill the social agreement, with the remainder disguised as CJ Logistics' operating profit."
The union predicted that "about 20% of normal deliveries are expected to be disrupted in the early stages of the strike."
The CJ Logistics delivery workers' union is demanding fair distribution of the parcel fee increase, abolition of the separate 56 KRW fee, complete abolition of the supplementary agreement, measures for low-floor trucks, and recognition of the labor union.
