Lee Jae-myung and Lee Nak-yeon to Serve as Co-Chairs of the National Vision and Integration Committee
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] On the 23rd, Lee Nak-yeon, former leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, will jointly serve with candidate Lee as the chair of the National Vision and Integration Committee of the Democratic Party's election campaign committee. It appears that he will take on the role of actively supporting candidate Lee, breaking his silence 51 days after the launch of the campaign committee.
The two met for the first time after the primary election on October 24 at a teahouse in Insadong, and after encountering each other again at the campaign committee launch ceremony on the 2nd of last month, they have now met face-to-face again after about two months.
After having lunch with candidate Lee at a restaurant in Jung-gu, Seoul, former leader Lee told reporters, "Candidate Lee and I have agreed to work together for the victory of the Democratic Party. We have agreed to establish the National Vision and Integration Committee, which candidate Lee and I will jointly chair and operate."
Former leader Lee added, "In the course of my activities, there may be times when I express views that differ somewhat from the candidate or the party," and "the candidate has expressed willingness to accept that."
Candidate Lee said, "Respected former leader Lee Nak-yeon has played many roles for the victory of the Democratic Party until now," and "Now, he will directly participate in the necessary organizations in earnest and do his best for the 4th Democratic government of the Democratic Party." He continued, "I have many shortcomings, but I believe our leader will fill many of those."
