Humasis Confirms Detection of COVID-19 Omicron Variant
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Humasis, a field-type rapid testing specialist company, announced on the 20th that it is capable of detecting the Omicron variant.
The Humasis products evaluated this time are two types: the antigen diagnostic kit ‘Humasis COVID-19 Ag Test’ and the self-test kit ‘Humasis COVID-19 Home Test’. The company conducted an evaluation on 30 clinical specimens infected with the Omicron variant in collaboration with a local national university in South Africa. As a result, a sensitivity of 93.3% (the rate at which positive specimens are correctly identified as positive) was confirmed.
Since the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) in South Africa announced the new COVID-19 variant Omicron on the 25th of last month, the virus has been rapidly spreading. Currently, there are 178 confirmed Omicron cases domestically, and the proportion of confirmed cases is gradually increasing.

A Humasis official stated, “Regarding the rapidly spreading Omicron virus, Humasis products have been confirmed to detect it with performance no different from that of existing COVID-19 virus detection.” He added, “Due to the global spread of COVID-19, we are maximizing the production operation rate of our products to meet the demand for diagnostic kits in countries including Korea, the United States, Vietnam, Brazil, and Europe, accelerating product supply.”
