KSOI "Within Margin of Error... First Lead Reversal Allowed After Candidate Yoon's Nomination"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Amid controversy over Kim Geon-hee's false career claims, support for Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, has declined, with Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, leading Yoon within the margin of error in public opinion polls.
In a poll conducted by the Korean Society Opinion Institute (KSOI) for TBS from the 17th to 18th, surveying 1,008 adults aged 18 and over nationwide, Lee's support rate was 40.3%, Yoon's support rate was 37.4%, Ahn Cheol-soo of the People’s Party had 4.6%, Sim Sang-jung of the Justice Party had 4.2%, and Kim Dong-yeon of the New Wave Party had 1.3%.
This is the first time since Yoon was officially nominated as the People Power Party's presidential candidate on the 5th of last month that Lee has led Yoon. Notably, compared to the previous poll, Yoon's support rate dropped by 4.6 percentage points, while Lee's support rate also fell slightly by 0.3 percentage points. Although Lee has also been affected by family risks such as his son's gambling controversy, it can be interpreted that the impact was greater on Yoon's side.
Thus, the gap between the two candidates' support rates was 2.9 percentage points, within the margin of error (sampling error ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level).
