View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] KT announced on the 19th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for joint research on an early cancer diagnosis solution using medical artificial intelligence (AI) with the Vietnam National Cancer Hospital.
Through this MOU, KT and the Vietnam National Cancer Hospital will begin joint research on an early diagnosis solution for thyroid cancer using medical AI. Based on this research, they plan to develop early diagnosis solutions for various types of cancer.
Thyroid cancer diagnosis rates have sharply increased due to advances in medical technology and the widespread use of health checkups, but the actual mortality rate has not changed significantly, raising concerns about overdiagnosis. Both institutions cited the issue of overdiagnosis of thyroid cancer as a social problem emerging in both countries as the background for this collaboration.
Following this joint research, KT plans to develop a medical AI platform that can address the challenges of Vietnam’s medical infrastructure and meet diverse needs. Additionally, KT will continue to explore various medical AI business opportunities through global partnership collaborations.
The Vietnam National Cancer Hospital is a specialized cancer hospital with the largest number of doctors and beds in Vietnam. Moreover, it possesses unparalleled research and development (R&D) infrastructure and data in Vietnam, making it an optimal partner for joint research on early diagnosis solutions.
KT is conducting joint research on AI-based thyroid nodule and cancer diagnosis assistance with Inha University Hospital, leveraging its AI, big data, and cloud capabilities. Recently, KT’s medical AI technology was recognized by winning first place at the medical AI competition held by the internationally renowned Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention Society (MICCAI).
