Although Kim made the remark with the intention of encouraging women's social activities, criticism arose that he viewed household responsibilities as solely the woman's burden.
On the 15th, at the International Women's Exchange Association's 5th anniversary ceremony held at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, Kim said, "Women generally have to fulfill two roles."
At the end of his speech, Kim also mentioned, "Regarding how to continue balancing the role of maintaining the household among the two roles of women, I hope members take a keen interest and offer many recommendations to the younger generation."
Kim further stated, "Looking at the changes in our country, in the 21st century, women and men seem to have little difference in social roles in professional fields. In particular, it has been found that women hold an advantage over men in professional occupations," but added, "(However) in politics, women's roles have not been well established, and the willingness of women to participate in politics does not seem to be very high."

He continued, "Considering this, institutional support is necessary to assist women's political participation. Whether women themselves will achieve this through their own efforts is a separate issue," and added, "I think that in the future, the positions of women and men in politics will become more similar."
