Southeast Region Statistics Forum Held to Strengthen Innovation Capabilities in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] On the 15th, the '2021 Southeast Region Metropolitan Indicator Statistics Forum' was held at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Busan, attended by the Southeast Regional Statistics Office, Gyeongsangnam-do, Busan City, Ulsan City, and the Bu-Ul-Gyeong Research Institute.
The forum was organized to build consensus on regional issues by utilizing the results of metropolitan indicator compilation and to seek solutions.
So far, Gyeongsangnam-do has been consulting with the Southeast Statistics Office to prepare metropolitan indicators to be used for policies when promoting ultra-wide cooperation in Bu-Ul-Gyeong, a regional issue.
In Session 1, Min Kyung-sam, head of the Southeast Statistics Office, explained the overall system of metropolitan indicators through a presentation on 'Compilation and Improvement Plans of Southeast Region Metropolitan Indicator System,' and discussed the use and improvement directions of the indicators with Professor Song Won-geun of Gyeongsang National University.
In Session 2, Lee Hee-gil, head of the Regional Statistics Division of the Southeast Regional Statistics Office, presented on 'Current Social and Economic Status of the Southeast Region through Metropolitan Indicators,' Gu Ja-hyung, head of the Big Data Statistics Division at Busan City Hall, on 'Current Status of Youth Population Outflow and Youth Job Analysis,' and Nam Jong-seok, research fellow at the Gyeongnam Research Institute, on 'Bu-Ul-Gyeong Megacity Development Strategy.'

Park Jong-won, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs, said, "Ultra-wide cooperation is essential to solve the youth outflow problem and strengthen Bu-Ul-Gyeong's innovation capabilities," adding, "I hope today's forum will be a good opportunity to establish and promote effective Bu-Ul-Gyeong cooperation policies based on real statistics."
