According to the county on the 15th, this contest targeted cities and counties in Jeollanam-do (public and private sectors) and recognized outstanding cases in four categories. After the first document screening and the second committee evaluation, the Shinan-gun Welfare Foundation’s ‘Visiting Remote Island Residents Hairdressing Project’ was awarded for its excellent performance and achievements.
Since last year, the project has established a legal and institutional foundation, and officially started in March this year with the opening of the Remote Island Hairdressing Support Center. It employs skilled hairdressers to provide haircuts, coloring, and perms at least twice a week to 33 remote islands in Shinan-gun.
Based on public-private cooperation with town and township offices, the Shinan-gun Community Security Council, and village chiefs, the project is carried out to guarantee the basic living rights and improve the lives of remote island residents despite difficult conditions.
Chairman Park Gyun-bo said, “We should regularly carry out the project for remote island residents, but it is regrettable that we could not do so due to the spread of COVID-19. However, we will prepare more thoroughly next year and do our best.”
