The Murderer of Ex-Lover's Family Under 'Personal Protection' is 26-Year-Old Lee Seok-jun... Decision to Disclose Personal Information
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The personal information of Lee Seok-jun (26), who visited the house of a woman he had previously dated and murdered her family, was disclosed on the 14th.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency held a personal information disclosure review committee meeting on the afternoon of the same day and decided to disclose Lee’s personal information. The committee made this decision considering the serious damage caused by Lee, who had prepared a weapon in advance, killed one person at the victim’s residence, and left another in critical condition; ▲ his confession to the crime; ▲ sufficient evidence secured through on-site investigation and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage; ▲ the preventive effect on similar crimes and concerns about secondary damage, comprehensively weighing the public interest. The police are also reviewing whether to change or add charges related to the murder and attempted murder allegations against Lee.
Lee is accused of visiting a villa in Jamsil-dong, Songpa-gu, where A (21) lived, on the afternoon of the 10th and stabbing A’s mother (49) and younger brother (13) in the chest and neck with a weapon. They were immediately taken to the hospital, but the mother eventually died. The younger brother is still receiving treatment in the intensive care unit due to severe bleeding. Lee broke into the second-floor door of a neighboring house, hid in the master bedroom wardrobe, and was arrested on the spot as a suspect at around 2:51 p.m., 20 minutes after the police arrived.
During the police investigation, Lee stated that he did not initially target A’s family. However, the police are investigating the possibility that Lee committed the crime out of revenge, harboring resentment over being reported.
It was confirmed that Lee observed residents entering and exiting A’s residence to check the password for the shared entrance door. The police have secured statements regarding how Lee found out the address and are investigating whether he used illegal methods such as hiring a private investigator.
Lee had been under police investigation even before this crime. On the 6th, when A’s father could not contact A, he reported to the police, saying, "I think my daughter is being confined," and the police began to locate A. Tracking revealed that they were in the Cheonan area of Chungnam Province, and the police dispatched officers to the scene, but Lee and A were not found there. The police heard from a local informant that they were in Daegu and found them there. It is reported that A later testified to the police that she had been confined and sexually assaulted.
The police judged there was no urgency to obtain an arrest warrant because of conflicting statements between A and Lee, possession of Lee’s residence and phone number, and Lee’s consent to voluntary accompaniment and voluntary submission of his mobile phone, so Lee was not arrested. Subsequently, the Cheonan Seobuk Police Station took over the case related to Lee and began an investigation.
