Kyungbok University to Build Second Dormitory at Namyangju Campus... Total of 333 Rooms
[Asia Economy (Namyangju) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeongbok University is building a second dormitory at its Namyangju Campus.
Gyeongbok University recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the second dormitory, Sungnye-won, at the Namyangju Campus, the university announced on the 10th.
The second dormitory will be built on the parking lot above Seondeok Hall at the Namyangju Campus. It will have a building area of 1,795㎡, 10 floors above ground, 1 basement floor, and a total of 333 rooms (accommodating 654 people).
The construction of the second dormitory was decided to create a study-friendly environment and improve living conditions for students, enhancing student welfare, attracting outstanding talent, and strengthening the university's competitiveness.
Kim Gyeong-bok, Acting President of Gyeongbok University, emphasized, "Despite difficult financial circumstances, Gyeongbok University decided to build the second dormitory to set an example of generous investment for students. The second dormitory will be equipped with state-of-the-art convenience facilities and will be a living space where students can freely pursue their dreams."
Last year, Gyeongbok University built the first dormitory at the Namyangju Campus, a 10-story building with 1 basement floor, accommodating 702 people. With the construction of the second dormitory, Gyeongbok University will have dormitory capacity for 1,354 people at the Namyangju Campus and 314 people at the Pocheon Campus, totaling 1,670 people.

Meanwhile, Gyeongbok University ranked first in integrated employment rates among metropolitan area universities (with over 2,000 graduates) for four consecutive years from 2017 to 2020, according to the Ministry of Education. In 2020, it also ranked first nationwide in employment rates among four-year universities and colleges (with over 2,000 graduates). Additionally, in the 2021 Ministry of Education University Basic Competency Diagnosis Evaluation, it was selected as a 'General Financial Support University,' certifying it as a university with excellent educational capabilities.
