The event was held in compliance with COVID-19 quarantine guidelines and was attended by key officials from both countries and companies, including No Hyungwook, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Kim Kyungwook, President of Incheon International Airport Corporation, Marcin Horawa, Special Envoy for the New Airport from the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure, and Mikolaj Bild, President of the Poland New Airport Corporation.
With the master plan for the construction of the Poland New Airport being established, the event was held based on the judgment that an initial step was necessary for practical cooperation in public infrastructure overall, including the airport, roads, railways, and urban development.
Earlier, the corporation won a contract in January for a "Strategic Advisory Consulting Project for the Poland Warsaw New Airport Project," providing advisory consulting during the project planning stage of the Poland New Airport project. The contract amount is approximately 5.6 billion KRW, and the project duration is three years in total.
Through this MOU signing, as the corporation's cooperation areas expand to the main development project of the new airport following the project planning stage, the possibility of the corporation participating as a strategic partner in the construction and operation of the Poland New Airport is expected to increase.
The main cooperation areas include ▲ mutual information exchange such as business value and feasibility evaluation for promoting the main development project of the Poland New Airport ▲and the formation of a working group for conducting evaluations, encompassing broad mutual cooperation, information, and personnel exchanges for the full-scale promotion of the Poland New Airport project.
The Incheon Airport Corporation stated, "If elevated to a strategic partner in the future, it is expected to participate in the main project stage responsible for the construction and operation of the Poland New Airport, creating synergy for co-growth with domestic companies by expanding the overseas export of the Korean-style airport platform."
The Poland New Airport project is a large-scale integrated transport hub development project that includes the construction of a new airport to replace the existing gateway airport, Warsaw Chopin Airport (targeted to open in 2027), as well as railway and hinterland city development, with a total project cost expected to reach approximately 10 trillion KRW.
