Gyeongsang National University Invests 27.5 Billion KRW to Improve Educational Environment and Guarantee Learning Rights
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Gyeongsang National University announced on the 9th that it secured 728 million won for the 'Liberal Arts Building Remodeling Design Fee' and 670 million won for the 'New Construction Design Fee for the Business, Humanities, and Social Complex Lecture Building' at the Gajwa Campus in the 2022 government budget.
Only two universities, Gyeongsang National University and Chonnam National University, secured project funds for two new buildings at one university.
The Liberal Arts Building remodeling project is a project investing 12.4 billion won by 2025, and the new complex lecture building construction project is investing 15.137 billion won by 2025. A total of 27.566 billion won will be invested over the next four years. Actual construction is scheduled to start in 2023 and be completed by 2025.
Due to university integration, Gyeongsang National University saw an increase of 1,128 freshmen at the Gajwa Campus, making the additional securing of lecture space urgent. The teaching area per student in the business, humanities, and social fields is only 50.4% compared to other national flagship universities.
As of 2020, the average teaching area per student at national flagship universities was 40.5㎡, whereas Gyeongsang National University had only 20.4㎡, indicating a need to improve the educational environment to guarantee students' learning rights.
President Kwon Soon-ki emphasized, "The completion of practical university integration is achieved by integrating similar and overlapping departments and colleges, the resulting student campus relocation, and the completion of essential facility expansions and renovations. The budget for the new complex lecture building related to department integration and learning environment improvement at Gyeongsang National University is an essential project."
