Samsung Electronics Affiliates Also Embrace 'Young Leader' Trend... First 40s Vice President Appointed (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] The generational shift at Samsung has swept not only Samsung Electronics but also across all its electronic affiliates, including Samsung Display, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDI, and Samsung SDS. Under the policy of appointing young and talented personnel, the vice president and executive director ranks have been merged, resulting in the first-ever vice presidents in their 40s at all electronic affiliates.
On the 9th, Samsung Display appointed Choi Yeol, vice president and head of the module development team in the Small and Medium Display Business Division, a module process technology expert, through the Samsung-style fast track that enables early cultivation of young executives. On the same day, Samsung SDI promoted Choi Ik-gyu, who led the development of next-generation battery materials, to vice president. Samsung Electro-Mechanics appointed Kim Jong-han and Cho Jeong-gyun as vice presidents, and Samsung SDS also appointed Kwon Young-jun and Seo Ho-dong as vice presidents. The common feature among them is that they are all the first vice presidents in their 40s at their respective affiliates.
All four Samsung electronic affiliates explained that they boldly appointed capable next-generation leaders and selected young executives early to nurture them. This is interpreted as a move to create a pool of CEOs by placing a large number of specialized talents in forward positions to achieve results and build a foundation for the future.
In this executive personnel reshuffle at Samsung electronic affiliates, many individuals who contributed to technological competitiveness and sales expansion through expertise were promoted. Samsung Display promoted a total of 24 people, including 8 vice presidents, 14 executive directors, and 2 masters. Samsung Electro-Mechanics promoted a total of 20 people, including 5 vice presidents, 13 executive directors, and 2 masters. Samsung SDI promoted a total of 21 people, including 6 vice presidents, 14 executive directors, and 1 master. Samsung SDS promoted a total of 16 people, including 6 vice presidents and 10 executive directors. Samsung Display, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Samsung SDS also appointed outstanding female talents who can demonstrate professional capabilities and leadership to achieve results.
Each affiliate explained that they appointed individuals who strengthened market dominance and contributed to securing future growth engines amid an uncertain management environment. Samsung Display stated, "We selected key personnel in research and development, manufacturing technology, and sales to establish a foundation for the company's future growth and prepare for diversification of the business portfolio." Samsung SDI said, "We strengthened business competitiveness, built a dynamic organizational culture, and created a stepping stone for business expansion."
