LG CNS Tackles Challenges with Quantum Technology... Partners with Korea Fujitsu to Develop Algorithms
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] LG CNS announced on the 9th that it has signed a business agreement with Korea Fujitsu to develop a ‘Quantum-Inspired Digital Annealer-based Mathematical Optimization Algorithm.’ The ‘Quantum-Inspired Digital Annealer’ is a quantum computing technology specialized in mathematical optimization. Unlike conventional computers that process ‘cases’ one by one, quantum computers can process multiple cases simultaneously.
Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly develop algorithms and cooperate to solve challenges in various industrial sectors such as transportation, finance, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. Korea Fujitsu will provide Fujitsu’s Quantum-Inspired Digital Annealer technology to LG CNS, and LG CNS will conduct mathematical optimization consulting services for clients based on the Quantum-Inspired Digital Annealer.
By combining Quantum-Inspired Digital Annealer technology with mathematical optimization, it is possible to derive an optimal traffic signal system that resolves traffic congestion in large cities in real time. Quantum technology can also be applied to logistics businesses by minimizing waiting times and collision risks of unmanned transport vehicles within logistics centers and finding optimal operation routes.
This technology also has diverse applications such as searching for the shortest ship movement routes considering sea currents and wind direction, and financial portfolio optimization businesses that design the best investment products by closely analyzing returns and risks.
The two companies are currently conducting a PoC (Proof of Concept) applying ‘Quantum-Inspired Digital Annealer-based Mathematical Optimization’ in the drug development process to discover new drug candidates and find optimal compound combinations with pharmaceutical and chemical companies.
