"Perceived Temperature Drops Sharply↓" ... Convenience Store Winter Gear Sales Soar↑
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Sales of cold-weather items such as hot packs and stockings sold at convenience stores surged due to the sudden cold snap.
According to 7-Eleven on the 7th, hot pack sales increased by 58.8% over the same period last year during the fifteen days from the 22nd of last month, when the minimum temperature dropped below freezing, to the 6th of this month. It is analyzed that consumers buying hot packs at nearby convenience stores increased as the subzero weather days increased by four days compared to the same period last year, and the wind blew strongly, causing the perceived temperature to drop sharply.
In particular, with the effect of the phased daily recovery (With Corona) continuing until last week, the floating population in entertainment districts and drive-in districts increased, resulting in hot pack sales in these districts rising sharply by 85.9% and 41.1%, respectively.
Sales of stockings and socks, which block the biting wind, increased by 40.3% and 32.2%, respectively. As the number of people showing cold symptoms increased due to the cold weather, sales of cold medicine in convenience stores also rose by 11.6%. Among snacks, roasted sweet potatoes and fish cakes sold 14.2% and 26.3% more than the same period last year, and sales of heated beverages increased by 26.8%, while one-cup beverages that are consumed by pouring hot water grew by 16.0%.
