Naju City and Green Umbrella Child Fund Join Hands to Support Underprivileged Child Households
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do, has joined hands with the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation Jeonnam Child Advocacy Center (Director Kim Jaechun, hereinafter referred to as the Center) to help local child households have a warm winter.
Naju City (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 6th that it will replace old oil boilers (worth a total of 8 million KRW) free of charge to improve the living conditions of 10 child households with poor heating conditions during winter in cooperation with the Center.
The boiler replacement is part of the Center’s child household living environment improvement project and is carried out for child households identified through local government and on-site surveys.
This project aims to guarantee children’s housing rights and safety rights, reduce heating costs through safety equipment inspections and improved energy consumption efficiency, and create a pleasant residential air environment by minimizing air pollutants.
The oil boilers to be replaced are models that meet the Ministry of Environment’s Type 2 certification standards (thermal efficiency of 84% or higher, NOx 80ppm or less, CO 150ppm or less) and are products that can be used in Naju City, designated as an air management zone under the “Special Act on Improvement of Air Quality in Air Management Zones.” The replacement is planned to be completed by the 10th.
Director Kim Jaechun said, “We hope this will be of some help to child households in the lowest level housing blind spots that do not even have adequate heating facilities,” and added, “We will continue to actively cooperate with and strive alongside the local community so that children can grow up healthy in a pleasant and safe living environment.”
Mayor Kang In-gyu said, “I sincerely thank the Jeonnam Child Advocacy Center for delivering a warm gift so that children, whose bodies and minds have become vulnerable due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and cold weather, can prepare for the winter cold wave,” and added, “We will work actively with the Center to resolve housing blind spots along with creating a child-friendly city where all children enjoy the right to happiness equally.”
Meanwhile, the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation Jeonnam Child Advocacy Center has been continuously advocating for awareness and environmental improvements, policy and institutional changes based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, aiming to support children’s growth and protect, respect, and realize children’s rights.
