The Department of Architecture Made a Splash... Silla University Wins Top Awards Including Grand Prize at the Korea Architecture Culture Awards

Silla University announced on the 6th that the Department of Architecture produced one Grand Prize winner, two Excellence Award winners, and two Honorable Mentions in the planning architecture category of the Korea Architecture Culture Awards, hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Institute of Registered Architects.
This architecture award is one of the most prestigious events in the field of architectural design, and this year it was held under the theme New Earth for Us.
Silla University’s winners were ▲Grand Prize (President of the Korea Institute of Registered Architects Award, prize money 2 million KRW) - Jeon Hyun-jun (4th year), ‘Blood Zone’ ▲Excellence Award (prize money 1 million KRW) - Kang Chang-woo (4th year), ‘Static Space, Passing Space, Omitted Space, Added Space’ ▲Excellence Award (prize money 1 million KRW) - Ahn Se-jin (4th year), ‘Pareto_Play Space for Urban Roaming Users to Revitalize Sasang Station Area’.
The Grand Prize-winning work, ‘Blood Zone,’ was highly praised for its very innovative attempt to find spatial diversity and possibilities by blurring the boundaries between two different concepts.
Additionally, Silla University produced the highest number of winning works among more than 200 entries in the planning architecture category involving university students.
Grand Prize winner Jeon Hyun-jun said, “At first, I went through many trials and errors while preparing the work, which was difficult, but I felt great reward and fun in the process of solving problems and completing the work, and I am honored to receive such a major award.”
Professor Hwang Deok-hyun, advisor of the Department of Architecture, said, “The Grand Prize-winning work, Blood Zone, appropriately utilized digital architectural programs and 3D printers, which can be called a new trend in modern architecture, producing a cutting-edge level work.”

The Department of Architecture at Silla University also collected various competition titles this year, winning the Gold Prize at the Daegu Urban Design Competition, the Grand Prize at the Jangheung County Public Officials’ Housing University Student Idea Competition, and Special and Encouragement Awards at the Gwangju Architecture Exhibition.
