[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] A group of former Gwangju city officials supporting Kang Kijeon, former Blue House Senior Secretary for Political Affairs, who is running for the Gwangju Metropolitan City Mayor election next year, has been formed.
Sangmu Forum (Permanent Representative Lee Yeon) announced that it held its inaugural general meeting on the 29th at 2 p.m. on the 3rd floor of La Boom Wedding Hall in Seo-gu, Gwangju, and has begun full-scale activities.
Retired public officials gathered to propose policies and visions for regional development based on their public service experience.
The general meeting, attended by about 100 members, opened with a performance by the Gwangju Women’s Philharmonic Orchestra. It then approved the articles of association, elected executives, and approved future activity plans.
Former Secretary Kang gave a special lecture as an invited speaker on the topic of “Seven Major Presidential Election Pledges for Honam and the Role of Regional Politics.”

The forum’s policy is to contribute to the local community by discovering and presenting regional policies and visions based on the experience and expertise of veterans who have devoted half their lives to city administration and regional development, fostering young and innovative talents, and promoting citizens’ pride.
To this end, it plans to pursue ▲ seeking institutional improvement measures for the development of local autonomy ▲ researching advanced systems and proposing alternatives ▲ establishing policy alternatives for local and sectoral livelihood issues ▲ public interest activities representing socially and economically marginalized groups, and will also conduct public hearings, seminars, briefings, and academic activities.
Former Secretary Kang congratulated, saying, “If retired public officials with broad perspectives and insight suggest the direction for the local community, it will be a great strength for the younger generation,” and added, “I hope they will carry out various activities to improve local issues and citizen convenience in the future.”
Secretary-General Song Seungjong said, “We will activate the Sangmu Forum not only as a place for fostering friendship among members but also as a group that helps Gwangju city administration and regional development.”
