According to the county on the 29th, the government is conducting a national cancer screening program to detect cancer, the leading cause of death in Korea, at an early stage and to promote treatment in order to reduce the mortality rate.
This year, the national cancer screening targets are those born in odd-numbered years. Stomach cancer and breast cancer (women only) screenings are for those aged 40 and above; cervical cancer (women only) for those aged 20 and above; liver cancer for those aged 40 and above (high-risk group for liver cancer); lung cancer for smokers aged 54 to 74 with a smoking history of over 30 years. In particular, colorectal cancer screening is mandatory annually for those aged 50 and above.
Screenings can be done anywhere nationwide at medical institutions designated as national cancer screening centers. Individuals can visit their preferred hospital or clinic with their screening form or ID card.
The screening institutions in the area include Jangheung General Hospital, Jangheung Woori Hospital, Lee Sang-jun Internal Medicine Clinic, and Hanmaeum Internal Medicine Clinic.
To increase the screening rate, the county conducts active promotional activities throughout the year, such as one-on-one phone consultations for those who have not been screened, sending screening guidance text messages, and broadcasting on town and township electronic billboards.
