[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulsan City has signed a business agreement with Germany's world-renowned private energy investment company to establish an offshore wind power complex.
The "Ulsan City Diplomatic Investment Delegation," led by Ulsan Mayor Song Cheol-ho, who is visiting Germany, signed an MOU at the RWE headquarters in Essen at 7 p.m. Korean time on the 27th, Ulsan City announced.
Founded in 1898, RWE is a German energy supply company specializing in electricity and natural gas, ranking second in the world for offshore wind power with a generation capacity of 43GW and a power output of 153TWh.
This business agreement was prepared to establish a cooperative relationship with private investors in areas such as the creation, operation, and maintenance of floating offshore wind power complexes and the establishment of local supply chains, to contribute to revitalizing the regional economy and creating jobs in Ulsan.
The private investors plan to cooperate in creating jobs by transferring technology to local companies, training personnel, and building an industrial base and energy supply chain in the Ulsan region.
Ulsan City will cooperate and support the private investors in the construction, operation, and maintenance of the floating offshore wind power complex.
RWE is currently carrying out a project to produce large-scale green hydrogen using offshore wind power in Europe.
Ulsan City’s strategy is to catch two rabbits with one stone by cooperating with RWE in floating offshore wind power and green hydrogen.
At the signing ceremony, Ulsan Mayor Song Cheol-ho said, "We will succeed in the floating offshore wind power complex project by cooperating with German renewable energy companies that lead the world in the renewable energy sector."
BayWa r.e., which signed a business agreement on the 25th, and RWE, which signed on the 27th, plan to establish offshore wind power complexes of 1-2GW and 2.5GW, respectively.
