Haenam-gun Selected as Excellent City/County for Returning to Farming and Fishing Villages in Jeonnam Province for 3 Consecutive Years
[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan) has been honored with the Excellence Award in the comprehensive evaluation of rural return and fishing village cities and counties in Jeollanam-do, marking its selection as an excellent city/county local government for three consecutive years.
According to the county on the 26th, this evaluation was comprehensively conducted on 21 cities and counties within Jeollanam-do, excluding Mokpo City, based on eight categories and 12 evaluation indicators, including achievements in attracting rural return and fishing village residents and promotions to attract urban residents.
Haenam-gun received high marks for its performance in attracting and educating rural return and fishing village residents, promoting the "Living Well in Jeonnam" initiative, implementing support projects for each stage of rural settlement, conducting visiting rural return and migration education in towns and townships, and launching differentiated new policies.
Haenam-gun is operating a systematic support system through the Rural Return and Migration Hope Center, providing customized comprehensive counseling and information, support projects and loan programs for each settlement stage, and rural experience programs such as "Living Well in Jeonnam" and "Living in the Countryside."
In particular, as a new independent project this year, to ensure stable settlement of rural return and migration residents, the county is promoting a vacant house bank system that expands the provision of information on vacant houses in rural and fishing villages, and for rentable vacant houses, it is implementing a vacant house remodeling project that leases them at half the surrounding market rent through remodeling, greatly helping to solve housing issues for rural return and migration residents.
Starting in April next year, the county plans to operate a rural return and fishing village stay-type support center that supports prospective rural returnees by providing a period of stay to understand rural life, adapt to rural areas, and practice and educate on agricultural startup processes, helping stable settlement.
Additionally, as a new independent project next year, plans include supporting tuition fees for children of rural return and migration residents and providing moving cost support for rural return and migration residents.
Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan said, “To continue the reputation as the No. 1 place for happy rural return and migration, we will do our best to develop diverse and differentiated rural return and migration policies and measures to revitalize rural return and migration, promote harmony with local residents, and support stable settlement.”
