Han Donghoon: "If Martial Law Had Not Been Stopped, People Power Party Would Not Exist... Unified Candidacy Depends on the Will of the People"
Han Donghoon Announces Campaign Pledges on May 19
"I Will Smash the Tyranny of Indictment Revocation in the National Assembly"
Han Donghoon, an independent candidate running in the Buk-gap district of Busan in the by-election for National Assembly members scheduled for June 3, stated on May 19, "If martial law had not been stopped, the People Power Party would not exist today," adding, "The People Power Party would not have been able to campaign wearing red uniforms."
Han made these remarks while speaking with reporters after holding a press conference to announce his campaign pledges at his election office on Nakdong-daero in Buk-gu, Busan, earlier that day.
Regarding remarks by Park Minsik, the People Power Party candidate running in the same district, who said Han should "start from self-reflection and sacrifice," Han retorted, "Are you saying we should regret stopping martial law?" and added, "You should regret not stopping martial law and going along with 'Yoon Again.'"
On the possibility of forming a unified opposition candidacy with Park, Han said, "For politicians, there is no such thing as '100%' or 'never.' In fact, when someone says that, it usually means they have some fear inside." He also commented, "Public sentiment is already paving the way," leaving the door open to such a possibility.
Han stated, "If I enter the National Assembly, the top priority is to cancel the prosecution and crush the Democratic Party administration," adding, "The person qualified to say that the Democratic Party administration deserves to be crushed for those actions should be the one to lead the conservatives." He further declared, "I will definitely be elected and restore the conservatives' right to speak."
Han also commented, "The current situation is much more serious than we think," and said, "If the president pushes ahead with the cancellation of prosecution to erase his own crimes, it is as much a regression of democracy and destruction of the system as illegal martial law." He added, "I will enter the National Assembly and crush the tyranny of the Democratic Party without fail."
Regarding ruling party candidate Ha Jeongwoo, Han said, "He is the one who said he was sent here with the support of President Lee Jaemyung," and added, "If Ha is elected, President Lee will say he has received permission to cancel prosecution, and will in fact do so." On the narrowing gap in polls between the two candidates, Han interpreted it as "the flow of public sentiment."
As a future roadmap for Buk-gu, Han presented three visions: ▲a city that attracts people and capital ▲a premium city where daily life is happy ▲a warmer and more reliable city. He pledged to build a K-Complex Arena and create the 'Nakdong River Golden Belt,' positioning the Nakdong River as the core axis for Buk-gu’s development. He also promised improvements in transportation, education, housing, and environment.
Han also expressed his intention to enact the 'Heesoo Act,' mentioning the story of Heesoo, a child with developmental disabilities, and their family, whom he invited to his previous campaign office opening. He stated, "To alleviate the burden on families raising children with disabilities, I will enact the 'Basic Rights Protection Act for Children with Developmental Disabilities,' which will include a voucher system with a cap on out-of-pocket expenses."
