Prosecutors Raid Busan City Hall Over Alleged 'Public Institution Blacklist' Involving Oh Keo-don
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The prosecution conducted a search and seizure at Busan City Hall in connection with allegations that former Busan Mayor Oh Keo-don pressured executives of public institutions under his administration to submit resignation letters.
According to the legal community on the 24th, the Anti-Corruption and Strong Investigation Division of the Busan District Prosecutors' Office sent about 10 investigators to Busan City Hall this morning to carry out a search and seizure targeting the Planning Officer's Office, Financial Innovation Officer's Office, MICE Industry Division, Sports Promotion Division, Chairman of the Audit Committee's Office, Integrity Audit Officer's Office, Informatization Officer's Office, and the Planning Coordination Office.
This case involves allegations that shortly after former Mayor Oh took office in June 2018, he coerced about 40 executives, including representatives of 25 public institutions under the city, to submit resignation letters, which has been dubbed the so-called "Busan version of the public institution blacklist." The Busan branch of the Liberty Korea Party filed a complaint with the prosecution in April 2019, accusing six city officials, including senior executives, of abuse of authority and obstruction of rights.
