Jeonbuk Province Goes All Out to Promote Smart Livestock Farming
Converting Traditional Livestock Facilities into Smart Barns Integrated with Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonbuk Province announced on the 24th that it will convert existing facilities into smart livestock barns to improve aging livestock environments and increase productivity.
According to the province, this year it is focusing on the smart livestock project by investing 37.9 billion KRW in barn facility modernization and 10.5 billion KRW in ICT convergence projects in the livestock sector.
Since 2009, the province has invested 460 billion KRW to modernize 905 aging barn facilities into modern barns.
Additionally, since 2015, it has invested 58.5 billion KRW in building an 'Intelligent Barn Management System' that integrates information and communication technology for optimal feed management, smartening 314 barns to improve productivity.
Accordingly, the province plans to take a step closer to revitalizing smart livestock farming through establishing smart livestock model standards by livestock type and demonstration projects.
To this end, the province will operate a smart livestock specialized task force (TF) composed of Korea National College of Agriculture and Fisheries, National Institute of Animal Science, Rural Development Administration's Education and Culture Information Service, private IT companies, and farmers.
It also plans to establish smart livestock model standards for pig farming and poultry by this year, and for Korean beef cattle, dairy cows, and ducks by 2022.
Furthermore, in December, it will promote a pilot project for smart livestock modeling in the pig farming sector in 2022 to lay the foundation for revitalizing smart livestock farming. The pilot project plans to demonstrate a standard smart livestock model through package support including modernization of existing barn facilities and ICT convergence projects in the livestock sector.
