[Asia Economy reporters Ryu Jeong-min and Lee Ji-eun] On the 23rd, President Moon Jae-in held a summit with Carlos Alvarado Quesada, President of Costa Rica, who is on a state visit to Korea, and agreed to establish a cooperative relationship for post-COVID economic recovery centered on digital and eco-friendly initiatives.
Costa Rica is a key partner that has expanded trade and investment with Korea since the Korea-Central America Free Trade Agreement (FTA) came into effect in November 2019. Ahead of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year, the two leaders also adopted a joint declaration to develop their relationship into an "action-oriented comprehensive partnership."
In particular, President Moon requested President Alvarado's attention to enable Korean companies with experience and technological capabilities to participate in digital and eco-friendly infrastructure projects promoted by the Costa Rican government.
They agreed to strengthen joint research utilizing Costa Rica's rich biodiversity and to explore new cooperation in the fields of aviation and aerospace industries, hydrogen vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cells.
