'Gwanak Starlight Festival' Held... Efforts to Revitalize 'Starlight Sinsari Commercial Area' Around Sillim Station
From the 23rd to December 14th, six Starlight Theme Zones set up between Sinsimgyo and Bongrimgyo in 'Byeolbit Sinsari'... Online and offline events including coupon event with Danggeun Market and busking performances
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The 'Gwanak Starlight Festival,' hosted by Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) and the Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation, will be held from the 23rd to December 14th.
Since last year, the district has been promoting the Starlight Sinsari Commercial District Renaissance Project around Sillim Station, including Sinwon Market, Gwanak General Market, and Seowon-dong Shopping Street, in collaboration with the foundation. In line with the phased recovery of daily life, various online and offline events have been prepared to further invigorate the local commercial district.
The three-week-long 'Gwanak Starlight Festival' plans to provide a healing space for residents exhausted by COVID-19 through the creation of a unique landscape that incorporates the newly branded natural scenery of Starlight Naerimcheon and the birth legend of General Gang Gam-chan.
Within the Starlight Sinsari Commercial District, six themed zones have been set up along the 220m section between Sillimgyo and Bongrimgyo bridges: Blessing Starlight, Happiness Starlight, Invitation to Starlight Naerimcheon, Recovery Starlight, Love Starlight, and Starlight Road.
Various performances are also prepared. Until December 12th, the 'Starlight Playground' will be held, expanding the range of performance events in collaboration with local cultural and artistic activists and organizations, providing performance opportunities for young and emerging artists.
From Wednesday to Sunday every week, four teams will perform 40-minute relay street performances including music, instrumental, and performance arts on the waterside stage of Starlight Naerimcheon.
Additionally, diverse events such as participatory activities like calligraphy and eco-pouch making, as well as the 'Starry Consumption Receipt' event to promote consumption in the local commercial district, will be held.
In particular, to further energize the commercial district, an online event offering 20,000 KRW coupons usable at 'Starlight Sinsari Commercial District' through the Danggeun Market app will be conducted simultaneously.
This event via the Danggeun Market app is a result of the regional commercial district revitalization agreement signed last September among Gwanak-gu, Danggeun Market, and the Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation.

Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “Considering social distancing, we boldly omitted the opening ceremony and prepared the event so that people can comfortably enjoy it like a walk. I hope this will be a time for residents and local small business owners, exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19, to smile brightly after a long time.”
