BTS Becomes First Asian Artist to Win 'AMA' Grand Prize
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dong-hyun] The group BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan) won three awards, including the top honor 'Artist Of The Year' at the American Music Awards (AMA), one of the three major music award shows in the United States.
On the 21st (local time), BTS received three awards at the 2021 AMA held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, USA: 'Artist Of The Year,' 'Favorite Pop Duo or Group,' and 'Favorite Pop Song.'
BTS is the first Korean singer and Asian artist to receive the grand prize at the AMA. RM expressed his thoughts, saying, "During this difficult time, we wanted to give many people our positive energy."
This year, BTS topped the Billboard main singles chart 'Hot 100' for a total of 10 weeks with 'Butter.' In addition, they also reached number one on the Hot 100 with 'Permission To Dance' and 'My Universe,' a collaboration with the band Coldplay.
At the ceremony, BTS performed a joint stage with Coldplay for 'My Universe,' which was released last September.
