Yoon Seok-yeol 42% vs Lee Jae-myung 31%... Yoon leads by 11 percentage points

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] In a 'four-candidate presidential support' survey, Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, was found to be ahead of Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, by more than 10 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error.
According to the poll results announced on the 19th by the polling firm Gallup Korea, candidate Yoon Seok-yeol was ahead of candidate Lee Jae-myung by 11 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error. When broken down by age group, Yoon Seok-yeol received more support than Lee Jae-myung in all generations except those in their 40s.
Gallup Korea conducted a survey from the 16th to the 18th targeting 1,000 adults nationwide, asking, "If the following individuals run in next year's presidential election, who do you think would be better as president?" (Confidence level 95%, sampling error ±3.1 percentage points). The responses were 42% for Yoon Seok-yeol, 31% for Lee Jae-myung, 7% for Ahn Cheol-soo of the People’s Party, and 5% for Sim Sang-jung of the Justice Party. Gallup Korea explained, "The options were called out in rotation, and if no specific person was answered, the question was asked again as 'Who do you think is at least a little better?'"

View original imageCandidate Yoon Seok-yeol received broad support except in the Gwangju and Jeolla regions, among people in their 40s, and among progressives. In particular, by age group, Yoon Seok-yeol received 22% support, the same as Lee Jae-myung, among those aged 18?29, but received 38% (Lee 28%) in their 30s, 46% (39%) in their 50s, and 59% (27%) among those aged 60 and above. Candidate Lee Jae-myung led with 41% support in the 40s age group, ahead of Yoon’s 32%.
In a previous 'four-candidate presidential support' survey conducted from the 19th to the 21st of last month, Lee Jae-myung received 34%, Yoon Seok-yeol 31%, Ahn Cheol-soo 9%, and Sim Sang-jung 5%.
Gallup Korea also surveyed individual favorability ratings for candidates Lee Jae-myung, Yoon Seok-yeol, Sim Sang-jung, and Ahn Cheol-soo. The percentage of respondents who answered "favorable" was highest for Yoon at 37%, followed by Lee at 32%, Sim at 29%, and Ahn at 25%. The unfavorable ratings, or those who answered "unfavorable," were lowest for Yoon at 56%, followed by Sim at 60%, Lee at 63%, and Ahn at 68%.
Meanwhile, in this survey, the positive evaluation of President Moon Jae-in’s job performance was 34%, and the negative evaluation was 59%. Support for President Moon’s administration had consistently been around 36?41% since recording 34% in the third week of May, but it has now hit its lowest point again after about six months.

This survey was conducted with 1,000 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide. Samples were randomly drawn from a mobile phone RDD sample frame (including 15% landline RDD) and conducted through telephone interviewer interviews. The response rate was 15%, and the sampling error was ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
