Gyeonggi-do Promotes COVID-19 'On-site Vaccination' at Nursing Hospitals and Facilities
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is promoting a plan to directly visit nursing hospitals and nursing facilities in the province to administer vaccines.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 19th that, as the timing for additional COVID-19 vaccinations for the elderly aged 60 and over and workers in mental care facilities has been shortened from 6 months after completing the basic vaccination to 4 months, it plans to complete additional vaccinations for nursing hospitals in the province through on-site visits by the 26th of this month.
To this end, the province has formed 86 visiting vaccination teams with 315 members in consultation with 31 cities and counties in the province, and is coordinating specific visiting vaccination schedules with elderly and mental care facilities.
The province plans to sequentially support nursing hospitals and nursing facilities that require visiting vaccinations, starting with those that have completed schedule coordination, and complete vaccinations by the 26th.
Vaccinations for medical institution workers and other institution-based vaccination targets have been underway since the 17th.
Among the additional vaccination targets, those who wish to receive rapid vaccination can get vaccinated on the same day using leftover vaccines starting from the 22nd.
Individuals who want to make a reservation for vaccination individually can make a reservation through the COVID-19 vaccination pre-reservation website starting from the 22nd (available from 2 weeks before their eligible vaccination date).
The vaccination date can be selected after the 6th of next month, considering the vaccine delivery schedule.
Ryu Young-cheol, Director of the Provincial Health and Wellness Bureau, explained, "It is important to respond to the increase in new confirmed cases and severe patients due to the spread of the Delta variant and breakthrough infections," adding, "To reduce the risk of severe illness and death, early additional vaccination is necessary, and we are making every effort to complete vaccinations for consenting nursing hospitals and facilities by November."
Meanwhile, the government shortened the vaccination timing for some additional vaccination targets due to an increase in new confirmed cases and severe patients caused by reduced vaccine effectiveness, as decided at the COVID-19 Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting on the 17th.

Previously, the interval for additional vaccination was 6 months after completing the basic vaccination for the elderly aged 60 and over, residents and workers of infection-vulnerable facilities (nursing hospitals, facilities, various social welfare facilities, etc.), and medical institution workers. This has been adjusted to 4 months after completing the basic vaccination. For people in their 50s and priority occupational groups (military, police, firefighters, etc.), the interval changed from 6 months to 5 months after completing the basic vaccination.
