Genesis unveils 'GV70 Electric Model' for the first time worldwide at Guangzhou Motor Show in China
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Genesis brand announced on the 19th that it unveiled the GV70 electrified model for the first time in the world at the '2021 Guangzhou International Motor Show' held at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou, China. The GV70 electrified model unveiling event was broadcast worldwide through the official Genesis YouTube channel.
Marcus Henne, head of Genesis China, said, "The world premiere of the GV70 electrified model demonstrates Genesis brand's commitment to the Chinese market," adding, "We hope Genesis's new electrified model will help move toward a sustainable future."
Powerful Performance Befitting a Luxury Model
The GV70 electrified model is a derivative of the internal combustion engine GV70, maintaining the interior comfort of the existing model while significantly enhancing product competitiveness by applying excellent electric vehicle power performance and various new technologies. The GV70 electrified model is equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery, offering a driving range of over 400 km per charge (based on domestic certification standards), and can charge from 10% to 80% battery capacity in just 18 minutes with a 350 kW ultra-fast charger.
Additionally, the GV70 electrified model operates as a single all-wheel-drive (AWD) model, applying motors with a maximum output of 160 kW and maximum torque of 350 Nm to both the front and rear wheels, delivering a combined maximum output of 360 kW and combined maximum torque of 700 Nm.
In particular, to provide a more dynamic luxury electric vehicle experience, a 'Boost Mode' that temporarily increases maximum output is applied, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. The combined energy efficiency is 4.6 km/kWh based on 19-inch tires.
Genesis applied a 400V/800V multi-fast charging system to the GV70 electrified model, allowing the use of various charging infrastructures. The multi-fast charging system utilizes the vehicle's drive motor and inverter to boost the 400V voltage supplied by general chargers to an optimized 800V for the vehicle system, enabling stable charging. This allows customers to use 800V ultra-fast charging infrastructure without a separate converter, as well as 400V chargers.
V2L and Smart Regeneration System 2.0 Also Draw Attention
The GV70 electrified model is equipped with a V2L (Vehicle to Load) function that can supply general power (220V) outside the vehicle, providing customers with a new electric vehicle usage experience. V2L delivers a consumption power of 3.6 kW, higher than that used in typical households, allowing electronic devices to be used without restrictions in various external environments.
Also, the Smart Regeneration System 2.0 installed in the GV70 electrified model automatically adjusts the amount of regenerative braking by using forward traffic flow and navigation map information, increasing or decreasing regenerative braking according to traffic conditions to optimize energy recovery. The i-Pedal (Intelligent Pedal) mode is a driving mode that allows acceleration, deceleration, and stopping using only the accelerator pedal. It activates when the strongest regenerative braking level is selected via paddle shift operation, enabling one-pedal driving and maximizing regenerative braking to help extend driving range.
The interior space secures competitive second-row space equivalent to the existing GV70 model by lowering the center tunnel to improve second-row comfort.
Improved Quietness and Ride Comfort
As a luxury electrified model, Genesis applied Active Noise Control-Road (ANC-R), a brand's top-level noise control technology, to the GV70 electrified model to secure quietness. This technology measures and analyzes road noise in real time through four sensors and eight microphones, simultaneously emitting sound waves of opposite phase through speakers, significantly reducing the noise level perceived by customers.
Furthermore, the preview electronically controlled suspension uses front cameras and navigation information to recognize road conditions in advance and control suspension damping force, providing customers with optimal ride comfort.
In addition to these product qualities, the GV70 inherits the dynamic exterior and spacious, balanced interior emphasizing the beauty of empty space, while adding differentiated elements unique to electrified SUV models. The front grille features an electric vehicle-exclusive G-Matrix pattern designed for aerodynamic efficiency, expressing Genesis's unique electric vehicle image. The charging port located at the top of the grille does not reveal its boundary when closed, appearing as part of the grille. Inside the charging port, a 'double line' chrome decoration is applied to provide overall design unity.
Jang Jae-hoon, president of Genesis brand, said, "Genesis's global vision to create a sustainable future based on electrification is an extension of the brand promise to 'positively impact customers' lives,'" adding, "We are pleased to take bold steps toward Genesis's sustainable future together with the new electrified model."
