[Asia Economy Reporter Kim So-young] A 20-year-old violin instructor was sentenced to prison for forcibly molesting three elementary school students he was teaching.
On the 18th, the Criminal Division 2 of Jeju District Court (Chief Judge Jang Chan-su) sentenced A (24), who was detained and prosecuted on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (forcible molestation of minors under 13), to five years in prison. In addition, he was ordered to five years of probation and a three-year employment ban at child and youth-related institutions.
A is accused of repeatedly forcibly molesting three elementary school girls who were learning instruments from him at two homes in Jeju City from last winter until June.
A reportedly completely denied the charges, claiming things like "my hand brushed against the victim's clothes while pulling them up," "I lifted the distracted victim during class and put her down on the living room floor," and "I corrected the posture of a child who couldn't fix her body to the instrument." The court did not accept these claims.
The court stated, "According to the evidence investigated through proper procedures, contrary to the defendant's claims, the crimes in this case are proven beyond reasonable doubt and are all judged guilty."

It added, "Considering the nature and frequency of the crimes committed by the defendant, the crimes are serious and the victims have not forgiven him. However, the sentence was determined considering that the defendant is a first-time offender," explaining the sentencing rationale.
