Ministry of Industry Holds Trade Promotion Committee Meeting... Discusses Carbon Reduction Contributions in Trade Sector
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 23rd Trade Promotion Committee meeting on the 18th at the Government Sejong Complex, chaired by Yeohangu, the Chief Negotiator for Trade.
At the meeting, the agenda included ▲Current status and response measures for climate change, environment, and trade ▲Discussion status and response direction for the 12th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) ▲Measures to resume negotiations for the Korea-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Free Trade Agreement (FTA) ▲Negotiations for joining the Korea-Central America FTA.
Chief Yeohangu stated, "At last week's 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), the Glasgow Agreement was adopted, establishing climate change and environment as global core issues," adding, "it is necessary to review the impact of climate change and environment on trade norms and cooperation and actively seek ways for the trade sector to contribute to carbon reduction."
