Seoul Police Agency Operates Prevention and Eradication Period on Child Abuse Prevention Day
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 18th that it will operate a one-month child abuse prevention and eradication promotion period starting on the 19th, 'Child Abuse Prevention Day,' and will conduct joint inspections with related agencies targeting children at high risk of re-abuse exposure.
This inspection, jointly conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, Seoul City, and the Child Abuse Protection Agency, will target the homes of 202 children who have been reported for child abuse two or more times in the past year or have a history of abuse victim investigations. During home visits, the safety of the children and the presence of abuse will be checked, and all family members, including parents, will be interviewed in depth. Depending on the risk level, child abuse investigations and follow-up management will be linked. For the first time, joint training (integrated workshop) will be held for police officers (84 abuse prevention officers and 661 female crime investigators) and dedicated district officials (86).
Considering the high risk of blind spots in child abuse occurring within child care facilities, the police plan to hold a child abuse prevention meeting between the police and heads of child care facilities on the 9th of next month to promote abuse prevention and encourage reporting.
Additionally, during the child abuse prevention and eradication promotion period, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and Seoul City will actively promote various content such as public service advertisements to improve awareness of child abuse through online and offline media they operate.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, together with Seoul City and Naver, has also established and is operating a system that provides location information of 'Child Safety Keeper Houses' on Smart Seoul Map and Naver Maps. Child Safety Keeper Houses are designated businesses near school routes or parks that play a protective role for children in emergency situations.
