[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Starfield COEX Mall’s Byeolmadang Library announced on the 18th that it will resume the 'Celebrity Invitation Special Lectures,' which were suspended in November last year, starting with an interview with Lee O-ryeong, Honorary Chair Professor at Ewha Womans University, in the era of phased daily recovery (With Corona).
Since its opening in May 2017, Byeolmadang Library has invited distinguished figures from various fields both domestic and international, including Professor Yoo Hong-jun, Professor Lee Guk-jong, writer Kim Hoon, architect Seung Hyo-sang, internationally renowned authors Bernard Werber and Jonas Jonasson, and world-renowned scholar Professor Jared Diamond, offering diverse lectures and performances. It is described as having established itself as a cultural and artistic space in the city beyond being just a 'library for reading books.'
Byeolmadang Library plans to showcase various contents by resuming the 'Celebrity Invitation Special Lectures' that were halted due to COVID-19. Scheduled lectures include Professor Lee O-ryeong’s 'The Last Lesson' on the 19th, Professor Yoo Hyun-joon (Department of Architecture, Hongik University) on 'The Future of Space' on the 26th, Vice President Song Gil-young (Vibe Company), known as Korea’s top big data expert, on December 3rd, and Professor Kim Beom-jun (Department of Bio and Chemical Engineering, KAIST) with a special lecture on 'The Science of Relationships' on December 10th.
The lecture opening the resumption is planned as a special interview video with Professor Lee O-ryeong. It conveys life wisdom beyond generations through discourse on life and death. Byeolmadang Library explained that, due to Professor Lee’s long battle with cancer making lengthy lectures difficult, they accepted his special invitation to have a comfortable conversation in his office. Under the theme 'Lee O-ryeong’s Last Lesson,' he shared stories about life and offered advice and encouragement on attitudes toward life for the younger generation living through challenging times. Rather than fighting illness, Professor Lee is focusing on organizing and sharing thoughts he has carried in his mind and heart throughout his life, dedicating himself to his 'last lesson,' emphasizing the 'living essence (Spirit)' within life and death.
