Gochang-gun Selected for 'Korea's Book-Reading Local Government Award'

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun (Governor Yu Gisang) announced on the 17th that it was selected for the ‘6th Korea Reading Municipality Award’ hosted by the Korea Reading Culture Promotion Association and sponsored by the National Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee.

The ‘Korea Reading Municipality Award’ is an award given to municipalities as part of the ‘Reading Korea Awards’ hosted by the Korea Reading Culture Promotion Association since 2016 as part of the movement to create a ‘reading nation.’ It recognizes outstanding institutions and individuals who contribute to the formation of a sound reading culture and lead the way in promoting the importance of books and the joy of reading.

Every year, six municipalities nationwide are selected and awarded, and Gochang-gun has had the honor of winning for three consecutive years from 2019 to this year.

The county is promoting projects such as remodeling small libraries to create a reading environment and various public contest projects such as ‘Humanities on the Road at the Library’ and ‘Library Wisdom School.’

It is also operating year-round regular lectures and humanities lectures for middle-aged and older adults, supporting reading clubs to activate social reading, running the ‘Gochang One Book Reading’ project, fostering the ‘Nop-eul Gochang Book Review Group,’ and promoting projects such as relocating and building the Gochang County Library.

Governor Yu Gisang said, “We will continue to strive to nurture citizens who read and think and to cultivate local talents,” adding, “We will safely complete the relocation and construction project of the Gochang County Library to make it a library and a landmark of Gochang that cannot be found anywhere else in the country.”
