Democratic Party: "If Yoon's '50 Trillion Won Pledge' Is Genuine, He Should Meet One-on-One"
"Avoiding Debate Is a Wrong Strategy If It’s an Election Tactic"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party of Korea has once again called on Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, to engage in a policy debate with Lee Jae-myung, stating, "If there is sincerity in the '50 trillion won pledge,' we hope you will stop stalling and confidently come to the one-on-one meeting table."
On the 17th, the Democratic Party said in a written briefing, "Lee's public proposal for a one-on-one meeting and policy debate is to discuss the people's livelihood issues. What reason does the opposition party's presidential candidate have not to come forward?" and criticized accordingly.
They continued, "Kim Ki-hyun, the floor leader of the People Power Party, excused it by saying it was a 'show to change the situation,' that 'each has their own election strategy,' and that 'the campaign team is not yet formed and preparations are not properly made at this point,'" adding, "It is hard to tell whether they are trying to protect candidate Yoon or belittling him as an unprepared candidate."

Furthermore, they emphasized, "Once again, there can be no ruling or opposition party when it comes to people's livelihood," and advised candidate Yoon, "There is an old legal saying: 1 도(逃, escape), 2 부(否, denial), 3 빽(背, backing). But in a presidential election, there is nowhere to run from the people, no way to deny and pass over, and no backing to stand in for you." They added, "Candidate Lee will be waiting happily at the debate stage anytime."
