Son Jun-sung, Human Rights Protection Officer at Daegu High Prosecutors' Office (former Investigation Information Policy Officer at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office), who is under investigation by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) related to the 'accusation tip-off' allegations, took a leave of absence that day, so there was no meeting with Prosecutor General Kim. Kim expressed that he would decide on personnel measures for Prosecutor Son after observing the CIO's investigation.
That morning, Kim visited the Daegu High Prosecutors' Office and District Prosecutors' Office in Beomeo-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu. This was his third visit to a regional prosecution office following the Busan High and District Prosecutors' Offices in August and the Gwangju High and District Prosecutors' Offices in September.
When asked by reporters if he planned to meet Prosecutor Son, Kim replied, "I heard he took a leave of absence," adding, "Since he is on leave, it might be difficult to meet." Regarding personnel measures for Prosecutor Son, he avoided a direct answer, saying, "Since the investigation is ongoing, we need to wait and see."
Regarding the recent controversy over the seizure and search of the spokesperson's official phone at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, Kim said, "I gave a detailed explanation to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office press team leaders last Friday," adding, "there is no illegal aspect, but since there are various stakeholders in the inspection process, it seems necessary to delicately review those parties as well and improve the system accordingly."
When asked about the purpose of visiting the Daegu High and District Prosecutors' Offices, he said, "As the person leading the prosecution, it is natural to come to the front lines to encourage the members and listen to their stories," adding, "The prosecution has undergone institutional reforms, and morale among members has dropped significantly, so it is difficult; I want to listen to many stories and encourage them."
When told that Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, visited Daegu for the last time before running for president, he replied, "He probably made a customary encouragement visit, and I am doing the same in that regard."
