Shinhan Financial Group, First Domestic Financial Group to be Included in DJSI World Index for 9 Consecutive Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Shinhan Financial Group announced on the 16th that it has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for nine consecutive years for the first time ever among domestic financial groups, as announced by Dow Jones in the United States on the 13th.
The DJSI is the world's most prestigious sustainability evaluation and socially responsible investment index that annually evaluates the sustainability of companies globally, targeting over 2,500 global companies with the highest market capitalization, by comprehensively assessing not only financial performance but also environmental and social aspects.
This year, 24 companies worldwide were included in the DJSI World Index banking industry sector, including global financial groups such as Santander (Spain), BNP Paribas (France), and National Australia Bank (Australia).
Shinhan Financial received top-level evaluations in climate change response strategies, sustainable finance, and social contribution. In particular, Shinhan Financial’s pioneering ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) activities were recognized, including the promotion of the 'Zero Carbon Drive,' a carbon neutrality strategy declared for the first time in East Asia, the establishment of the first environmental and social risk management best practices among domestic financial groups and the first Equator Principles operation among commercial banks, and the development of the Shinhan social value measurement model.
