[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The direct transaction market for agricultural and marine products at Seoul Plaza, which has not been held since Chuseok 2019 due to COVID-19, will reopen after about 800 days, or roughly two years.
According to Seoul City on the 15th, the city announced that it will hold a direct transaction market for agricultural and marine products at Seoul Plaza for two days on the 19th and 20th. Fresh and excellent agricultural and marine products from all over the country, such as nutritious chili peppers, Seocheon salted seafood, and Cheongsong apples, can be purchased at prices up to 30% cheaper than market prices. On the same days, direct transaction markets will also be held at DMC in Mapo-gu and Mallidong Square.
At Garak Market, the largest wholesale market in Korea, a kimchi ingredient consumption promotion event will be held on the 20th, where various kimchi ingredients such as salted napa cabbage, radish, red pepper powder, and salted shrimp can be purchased at up to 30% discounted prices.

Hwang Bo-yeon, Director of the Economic Policy Office, said, "The ‘direct transaction market,’ where safe and high-quality agricultural products recommended by local governments nationwide can be purchased at affordable prices, will be held at Seoul Plaza for the first time in about 800 days since COVID-19." He added, "Through this event, we aim to promote the sale of healthy agricultural products from producers who have faced difficulties securing sales channels after COVID-19, revive the depressed consumer sentiment, and contribute to economic revitalization."
