[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] A cluster of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 has been reported at a nursing hospital in the Gwangju area.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 13th, 31 people were confirmed positive in one day, classified as cases 5574 to 5604.
Among them, 27 were confirmed cases related to a nursing hospital located in Seo-gu, including 18 patients and 9 staff members.
Following the preliminary testing of high-risk facility workers on the 10th, which confirmed infections in 2 care workers, a full inspection was conducted on a total of 268 people.
The hospital has recorded a cumulative total of 48 positive cases, mainly centered around wards 5 and 6.
Of the confirmed cases related to the nursing hospital, 34 are patients, 13 are staff such as care workers and assistants, and 1 is a family member infected.
Except for 5 confirmed cases, 43 had completed vaccination, suggesting these are cases of 'breakthrough infections.'
Two people under investigation due to symptomatic testing and two others who had contact with previously confirmed cases were also confirmed positive.
Among them, one is a middle school student in Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do. The health authorities are conducting a full investigation targeting about 100 students and staff.
