Sancheong-gun, 2021 Seonbi University Opening... Continuing for 16 Years
Prepared to Promote the Spirit of Nammyung Jo Sik Seonbi
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 12th that the '2021 Seonbi University,' established to spread the scholar spirit of Nammyung Jo Sik, a master of practical Confucianism during the Joseon Dynasty, has opened.
Marking its 16th year this year, Sancheong Seonbi University has been entrusted to and operated by the Nammyung Studies Institute affiliated with Gyeongsang National University since 2006.
It was established to promote the Nammyung spirit and enhance the status of Sancheong-gun, known as the hometown of scholars, and graduates about 40 students annually.
Lectures are held twice a week at the Nammyung Memorial Hall located in Sicheon-myeon until December 30.
The teaching staff consists of professors from the Nammyung Studies Institute at Gyeongsang National University and external distinguished figures.
The curriculum mainly focuses on reading classical Chinese texts (Mencius), and on-site learning activities will be omitted or reduced to prevent COVID-19.

A county official said, “Our Sancheong-gun has established itself as the true hometown of scholars, not only by operating Seonbi University but also through institutions like the Korea Seonbi Culture Research Institute,” adding, “We will continue to strive to boost local residents' pride and ensure substantial operation.”
