AI Confirmed at Quail Farm in Chungbuk... Prime Minister Kim Orders Culling Within 500m and Movement Control
Prime Minister's Emergency Directive
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum on the 10th ordered, regarding the confirmation of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) at a quail farm in Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, "to promptly implement quarantine measures according to the emergency action guidelines (SOP), including preventive culling, movement control, and disinfection of poultry farms within 500 meters nearby."
According to the Office for Government Policy Coordination on the same day, Prime Minister Kim issued this urgent directive to the ministers of related ministries, including the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, urging them to "make every effort to prevent the spread of AI to other regions."
Prime Minister Kim also added, "Ensure that no blind spots occur in quarantine by closely cooperating with related ministries and local governments to efficiently deploy and utilize personnel and equipment, and thoroughly inspect the quarantine situation on site."
He further stated, "The Minister of Environment should strengthen the wild migratory bird surveillance system, including monitoring wild migratory birds and sharing information among related agencies," and "The Commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency should cooperate with local governments to thoroughly educate and take preventive measures for personnel deployed at culling sites."
