According to the county on the 10th, during this visit to the National Assembly, they met with Seo Sam-seok, the National Assembly member of the local constituency, Shin Jeong-hoon, a member of the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee, and officials from central government ministries to explain in detail the necessity of local pending projects and actively requested support for securing national funds.
Yeongam-gun proposed national budget support of 186.3 billion KRW for local pending projects such as the Mahan History Theme Complex development, the proposal for selection of the Daebul Industrial Complex major renovation project, development of Yeongam training aircraft airfield, undergrounding of high-voltage transmission lines in the Daebul residential complex, and the construction of a golf practice range in Yeongam-gun.
In addition, although government financial demand due to COVID-19 was urgently used for disaster relief funds and public contests by central ministries were drastically reduced, through continuous monitoring of central government public contests and establishing appropriate project response strategies, a total of 45 projects worth 84 billion KRW (54.4 billion KRW in national and provincial funds), which is a 5% increase compared to the previous year, have been secured through various contests (central government, Jeollanam-do) so far.
County Governor Jeon Dong-pyeong said, "The Daebul Industrial Complex plays a key role as the core base of the southwestern region's economy, but it is an aging industrial complex that has passed 30 years since construction, and due to decreased production and employment, new investment projects have shrunk, so strengthening competitiveness is urgent." He added, "We will overcome the poor county finances by diversifying industries and creating new jobs through the major renovation of the industrial complex reflecting local community conditions."
He continued, "With the enforcement of the Special Act on the Maintenance of Historical and Cultural Areas, the Mahan historical and cultural area is being re-evaluated both domestically and internationally. We propose it as a national direct project to develop it into a historical and cultural theme tourism site that re-examines the ancient Mahan history with distinctiveness centered on the Yeongsan River basin, aiming to diversify the poor local culture and establish a cultural tourism resource base."
National Assembly members Seo Sam-seok (Yeongam-Muan-Shinan) and Shin Jeong-hoon (Naju-Hwasun) said, "Considering Yeongam-gun's financial conditions and the active promotion of the Korean New Deal project, we agree that securing national funds is most important and will do our best to ensure that as much national budget as possible is reflected."
