Dexter Establishes Virtual Production Studio 'D1'
Sharing Technology with US Lux Machina... Director Kim Yong-hwa Starts with 'The Moon'
Dexter Studio announced on the 10th that it has established a virtual production studio called 'D1' in Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do. It is a space where actors and backgrounds are filmed simultaneously by projecting 3D backgrounds in real-time onto a large light-emitting diode (LED) wall. VFX work is instantly reflected, reducing filming costs and minimizing spatial and temporal constraints. The process time is also shortened, drawing attention as an efficient system.
D1 is special in that it plans and produces its own content. To acquire the capabilities necessary for virtual production, the VP headquarters was established two years ago, operating teams such as previsualization, Unreal environment production, filming, and development. It also shares technology with Lux Machina in the United States, a company responsible for virtual production on projects like 'The Mandalorian' and 'Solo: A Star Wars Story.' A representative stated, "In addition to Lux Machina, many global companies such as the film equipment manufacturer ARRI and game engine developer Epic Games contributed to the establishment of D1."
