Small Construction Sites, No Helmet Use and Unstable Access Scaffolding Issues
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] It has been revealed that falls and collision accidents frequently occur in high-risk industries within Gyeonggi Province.
According to the province on the 9th, over a two-week period starting from the 11th of last month, 298 hazards were identified at 118 high-risk industry sites (construction, manufacturing, transportation and warehousing) across five regions (Hwaseong, Yongin, Pocheon, Namyangju, and Icheon), and corrective actions were requested for 250 of these cases.
Among the four major causes of disasters identified during the inspection?falls, entrapment, collisions, and fire/explosion?falls accounted for 108 cases (36%) and collisions for 95 cases (32%), making up 68% of the total.
In the construction industry, falls (89 cases) were the most significant hazard; in manufacturing, entrapment and collisions (28 cases each); and in transportation and warehousing, collisions (67 cases) were the leading risk factors.
Particularly at small-scale construction sites, many workers were found not wearing safety helmets, and numerous issues requiring improvement were discovered, including inadequate safety railings, unstable access scaffolding, and the stacking of materials on temporary structures.
