Japan, Arson Attempts on Electric Trains Occur Consecutively... Concerns Over Copycat Crimes
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Crimes involving wielding weapons or arson on electric trains are occurring one after another. The pattern of copycat crimes is causing tension in Japanese society.
On the morning of the 8th, a man in his 60s was arrested in the act for setting fire inside a Kyushu Shinkansen high-speed train car running through Kumamoto Prefecture. He sprayed some kind of liquid on the floor and threw a paper lit with a lighter, but fortunately the fire did not spread and went out.
Due to this incident, the Shinkansen train made an emergency stop, causing delays on the affected line.
