Kooksoondang's Fresh Makgeolli Renewal Effect Hits Hard... Sales Increase by 96%
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Kooksoondang announced on the 8th that the sales volume of the renewed ‘Kooksoondang Saeng Makgeolli’ increased by 96% over four months compared to before the renewal. Sales also rose by 68.1% compared to the same period last year (July to October).
The reason for the increase in sales of ‘Kooksoondang Saeng Makgeolli’ can be attributed to the renewal effect. In June, Kooksoondang newly launched the product with improved taste and quality, and packaging that considers the environment and product quality. It contains ingredients such as probiotics by applying a verified 5-step complex fermentation method, praised by consumers of the premium Makgeolli ‘100 Billion Probiotics Makgeolli.’ The pleasant acidity generated during the probiotic fermentation process and the fruity aroma created by Kooksoondang’s specially cultured yeast for Makgeolli combine to deliver a diverse and rich taste and aroma.
The design uses a label that wraps around the entire PET bottle to minimize quality degradation caused by light exposure. Additionally, as part of ESG management practices, the packaging was improved to be eco-friendly by applying perforation lines on the label for easy separation and recycling.

Furthermore, the company explained that the increase in sales was also contributed by the expansion of distribution channels, such as the new entry of ‘Kooksoondang Saeng Makgeolli’ into major convenience stores amid growing interest in Makgeolli, and a significant increase in sales at existing Makgeolli specialty stores. Following the renewal, positive responses have led to steady expansion of sales outlets, including entry into large retail channels like Costco and Lotte Mart.
