Police Officer Commits Suicide at Jongno-gu Police Substation in Seoul... Carrying Firearm While on Duty
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] A current police officer has died by suicide using a firearm at his workplace, and the police are investigating the incident.
According to the police on the 8th, around 7:20 p.m. the previous day, a police officer in his 50s, Mr. A, was found dead at a police box under the jurisdiction of the Jongno Police Station in Seoul. It is understood that Mr. A, who was carrying a firearm during working hours, went up to the rooftop of the police box and used the weapon to take his own life.
Mr. A was pronounced dead at the scene immediately after the incident, and no suicide note has been found so far. He was known to have transferred to this police box after working at an emergency medical center for intoxicated individuals in Seoul.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident and the cause of death.
